A HARDWARE PROCESSOR FOR REAL TIME TRACK RECONSTRUCTION

ABSTRACT

In this report is presented a hardware processor realized to perform fast reconstruction of straigth tracks . The tracks in an event are correlated with suitable masks; the matching with a predefined mask allows the evaluation of the track slope. This correlation is combined with the multiresolution technique to reduce the time for the slope identification. The hardware realized has been tested on an experiment at the Gran Sasso laboratory in Italy and it analyzes an image of 10x800 pixels in about 500 msec. Furthermore an ASIC has been developed performing the correlation function following the described algorithm.
